Divrigi Great Mosque & Hospital

Divrigi Great Mosque & Hospital consists of an ornately decorated mosque and a medical complex remaining from 13th century Anatolian Seljuks. The monument is highly recognizable for the architecture and art concept with exquisite stone carvings which are considered as the best in Anatolia. For that reason, this magnificent building was added to UNESCO World Heritage Sites list in1985.

The geometrical and floral patterned reliefs found on the main door differ the monument from the others and attract great interest in particular. They say the architect was probably inspired by Armenian and Georgian architecture. 3D geometric styles and botanic designs are considered “unique” by art historians and architects.  All the drawings were arranged to show the unity of God.
